Seeking trustees for arts charity in Hammersmith & Fulham

What will you be doing?
This New Ground is an arts organisation that aims to elevate the artistic voices of learning disabled people in Hammersmith & Fulham. We aim to remove barriers and increase access for learning disabled people to lead, make and participate in the arts. Through creative engagement we transform lives and celebrate unheard voices.
It is a very exciting time to join This New Ground as we shape the future of our organisation and transition from being a not-for-profit community-led organisation to becoming a registered charity (CIO).
We are currently seeking dedicated trustees who are passionate about improving the lives of people with learning disabilities and want to help make a difference.
The Trustee Board is made up of individual board members contributing their knowledge and experience in quarterly board meetings. The board ensures that our mission is being accomplished in accordance with law and regulations, and also helps with the strategic guidance of the organisation. In keeping with the company’s legal status, this is a voluntary role, however, reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
The duties of a This New Ground trustee includes:
Setting and maintaining vision, mission and values
Establishing and monitoring operational and governance policies
Ensuring pursuance of charitable objectives as defined in the governing document
Ensuring compliance with charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation
Maintaining proper fiscal oversight, including securing sufficient resources to fulfil the charity’s mission, monitoring spending, approving budgets and financial reports, and minimising risk
Respecting the role of staff and creating policy to guide activities and wellbeing
Creating and monitoring comprehensive, fair and legal policies for employment, recruitment, performance and remuneration of staff
Promoting, advocating and identifying opportunities for the charity
Maintaining effective board performance through productive meetings
What are we looking for?
We are particularly interested in skills and experience in the following areas:
Arts in community settings
Impact measurement and evaluation
Fundraising and reporting
Health and social care sector
PR, marketing and audience development
Finance and accounting
Charity law and compliance
We would also welcome candidates with a deep knowledge of Hammersmith and Fulham.
How much time commitment will I need to give?
We have 4 trustee meetings a year, each meeting lasts around 2 -3 hours and will take place in West London, outside office hours. We expect our trustees to support the shows and events wherever possible and to actively support fundraising. You maybe asked to take on ad hoc responsibilities (no more than 3 hours a month) throughout the year focused to your area of expertise depending on our needs and your enthusiasm.

You will be be instrumental in providing strategic direction for a small charity at a significant time of change and development, supporting us to make a real difference for learning disabled people in Hammersmith and Fulham.
