Art in the Aisles: This New Ground to host creative sessions at Lucy & Yak
Shoppers in Portsmouth are being offered the opportunity to get creative at a fun This New Ground event at conscious clothing brand Lucy & Yak. Some of our wonderful artists will be hosting fun and free digital art taster sessions at the Gunwharf Quays store on Thursday, 2 April between 11am and 2pm. Visitors to the clothes store, which opened in February bringing pre-loved and recycled, imperfect pieces and hidden gems you wouldn’t find anywhere else to Gunwharf Quays shoppers, will also have the opportunity during this pop-in event to purchase wonderful greeting cards and prints, designed by our talented This New Grounds artists, including fabulous designs of Portsmouth landmarks.
Event celebrates ‘Inside’ exhibition’s opening week
This New Ground artists will also be sharing information with Lucy & Yak customers about our new immersive exhibition ‘Inside’ which opens on 27 March. The exhibition has been inspired by the stories of people with a learning disability living in Portsmouth and is on until 7 June at Aspex Portsmouth in the Vulcan Building at Gunwharf Quays. Lucy Groenewoud, co-director of This New Ground, says:
“We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Lucy & Yak on this exciting in-store event, as it’s a brand we really admire for its strong focus on creativity, individuality, inclusion and community, which aligns so well with TNG’s belief in the talent and leadership of artists who are too often excluded from opportunity.”
Look out for our festival flags at Lucy & Yak
The Portsmouth store will also be featuring festival flags in its window during our ‘Pivot Fest’, the city’s first arts festival led by artists with a learning disability, in May. Sophie Foster, store manager at Lucy & Yak Portsmouth says:
“There is such a strong values alignment between Lucy & Yak and TNG, and we are really exciting to be hosting this exciting in-store event with them which we are certain our customers are going to love.”
The Lucy & Yak event is the first of a range of activities at Gunwharf Quays over the coming months in support of our exhibition and festival.
