The Magic Sparks Anthem

"One of the things that Matthew always says, which I really like and respond to, is that he doesn’t want it to sound polished, he wants it to sound more like life." - Tom Wells (talking about songwriting alongside Matthew Robins for the musical, Drip.)

For the past couple of weeks The Magic Sparks have been collaborating with playwright Tom Wells and composer Matthew Robins at Bush Theatre and together we inspired and created The Magic Sparks Anthem.

Week one was a kind of getting to know you session. One by one, around the circle, we each took turns to share our stories, answer questions and express our thoughts and ideas about who we are and what the choir means to us.

A week goes by and Tom has shaped the choir's words into lyrics and Matthew has set them to music.

It's a feel good song that makes us laugh. Some choir members prefer harder hitting, grittier songs, 'not so positive'. (We use this to our advantage in the perfromance of the song.)

WE COULD HAVE BEEN LIKE SISTER ACT
(BUT WE’RE NOT)

Conversational in tone, echoing last week's session. With a tune you will keep on humming all day long.

Dance breaks and solo lines. We brought the words to life the way we know how.

We stamp and we sing.

THESE GUYS GIVE ME SPARKS
(A BIT)

We sing to announce ourselves.

WE ARE MAGIC SPARKS
WE ARE MAGIC SPARKS
